Air XD: The New Generation of Particulate Monitors

Thousands of people die every year due to the inhalation of hazardous particulates at work. The response to this crisis has been hampered by the unavailability of reliable dust monitoring – until now.

Air XD from Trolex simultaneously monitors for dust across the full spectrum of harmful particulates, is highly accurate even when operating in heavy dust loads, and has no filters and no pump and so requires servicing only every 6-12 months. It’s the new generation of particulate monitors and it’s available from Trolex and its global network of distribution partners.

According to the HSE, three out of five of the biggest occupational health hazards are related to the inhalation of harmful particulates, causing serious long-term health problems and untimely death. Silicosis, Black Lung Disease and COPD have all been linked to this issue, to name a few. Particulate monitoring has seen very little innovation over several decades, leading to thousands of deaths. Over 18,000 cases of work-related respiratory illnesses are recorded every year in the UK alone, according to the Labour Force Survey, and the figure is over 1/2million globally.

In response to this health crisis and after seven years of research, Trolex have created a new generation of particulate monitors: The Air XD Range.

Prior to the release of the Air XD the biggest issue with dust monitors on the market was their inability to accurately detect particulates in heavy dust-loads.

Air XD is the world’s first and only plug-and-play, open-path, full-spectrum, real-time particulate monitor, and can retain its accuracy in dust-loads of up to 1500 mg/m³ - that’s around ten times more than the old technology can achieve.

Plus, it monitors all dust all of the time - 10,000 particulates per second from 0.35µm-40µm, meaning no more guesswork. Just the complete picture of particulates in the air, delivered with unrivalled accuracy.

Air XD has no filters and no pump, which means no messing about with weekly or monthly cleaning regimes and replacement requirements. Its open-path brushed stainless steel chamber allows Air XD to monitor every particle flowing through the unit with near-zero maintenance or man-power.

The recommended Air XD maintenance cycle is every 6 – 12 months, compared to a cycle of just a few days in some competitor models. Calibration of the unit is completed in-field in seconds and is serviced in around 20 minutes. No lab testing, no return-to-base and no complicated routines.

Air XD isn’t just about saving lives – it also provides many opportunities to save money, improve efficiency and protect businesses.

The real-time, full-spectrum information delivered by the unit can be used to improve processes, identify process leakages and to intelligently deploy dust suppression and control tactics. Usage of PPE and initiation of safety procedures can be controlled in a smarter way. Proven regulatory compliance can prevent litigation claims against businesses for health issues that later become apparent for those with prolonged exposure to harmful particulates.
