Should luggage be removed from a rack during the course of a journey passengers will receive an alert via an app on their smartphone, or tablet within two seconds of a bag being removed.

While little can be done to eradicate the motives for theft, there is now a clever way to prevent it thanks to a partnership between Trolex and Aporta Digital. Trolex and Aporta Digital are offering an important new service for rail travellers concerned about the safety of their luggage. By using RFID tags the European market patented ‘Luggage Alert System’ allows passengers to load their luggage in racks and take their seats, safe in the knowledge that their personal effects will be secure.

The partnership between Trolex and Aporta Digital, which offers world-class mobile on-board infotainment systems for trains and buses, has already produced the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) media portal. Launched in 2015, BYOD is to be fitted to Class 158 DMU trains operated by Northern Rail with the support of railroad equipment supplier Rail Order.
BYOD offers rail passengers Hollywood movies, and a wide range of news, entertainment and sports channels, as well as high speed Internet - all delivered to their personal devices from just a single portable box.
